Annual

People over 50 are travelling more than ever. Typically, if you have three or more trips planned for the year, annual cover can be a cost-effective way of protecting yourself. You’ll save time on taking out multiple single-trip policies, while still receiving all the benefits of comprehensive holiday insurance.
An annual policy can protect you on a range of trips, including beach holidays and snowy getaways. And with our range of cover levels, you can choose the right level of protection for the year ahead.

Single Trip

Designed to cover you over the course of a single holiday, this type of policy is best suited to anyone who only has one or two trips planned for the year. With Age Co Travel Insurance, even on single trips, you can find coverage for medical emergencies and lost or damaged personal possessions.

You can buy single-trip travel insurance up to 12 months before your holiday. If you include cancellation cover, this means you can protect your trip from the minute your policy starts.

Coronavirus cover

Anyone protected by Gold, Gold Plus, and Platinum levels benefits from robust Covid-19 safeguards, which include:

  • Covid-related cancellation: If you or a member of your travelling party are diagnosed with Coronavirus within 14 days of your scheduled departure, then your prepaid transport and accommodation costs will be covered
  • Coronavirus treatment: Should you contract Covid-19 while on holiday and need care, you can be protected by up to an unlimited amount in emergency medical expenses. And if you need to extend your trip, your policy includes up to £2,000 for accommodation and travel costs for you and a companion
  • Early return due to Covid: If a member of your immediate family is hospitalised or passes away due to Coronavirus, your policy will cover the costs incurred from a trip ending early
Getting a Quote

When getting a quote, you may find it helpful to have the following information to hand

  • Details about where you plan on travelling
  • Dates for your trip, unless you’re taking out annual travel insurance
  • Information on any pre-existing medical conditions

Though not a requirement, you may find it helpful to have receipts for flights or hotels to hand. This can help you determine how much cover feels right for your trip.

Travel Insurance explained
Do I need travel insurance?

No matter where your next holiday is taking you, having travel insurance can help provide both peace of mind and vital protection should things go wrong. This could mean reimbursing you should your trip get cancelled, or stepping in to cover the cost of any hospital stays. No matter your age or your medical history, we always advise getting some level of cover in place far in advance of any planned trip, if you are able.

Many products, including Age Co Travel Insurance, offer different levels of coverage and can be tailored to suit your needs.

How much is travel insurance?

The cost of travel insurance is calculated based on your age, pre-existing medical conditions, trip duration and where you plan on visiting. Prices will also vary depending on how much protection you’re after and how much excess you’re willing to pay.

When should you take out travel insurance?

This will depend. Only by taking insurance out in advance will you be covered against your holiday falling through - though you will likely pay a higher premium for this.

If you’re looking to keep the cost of your quote down, then purchasing insurance just before a trip can be a more cost-effective option. However, this will mean you are unprotected against cancellations.

At Age Co, you can take out single trip travel insurance up to 12 months in advance of your trip. This not only gives you one less thing to think about when your holiday comes around, but, if your policy includes cancellation coverage, you’ll be protected if your plans change.

What is travel insurance excess?

Excess refers to the amount you agree to pay towards any claims that may occur. For instance, if your excess towards cancellations is £250, then you’ll pay the first £250 of any claim made on a cancelled trip. Your insurer will then pay the rest, providing it is within the agreed limit. Typically, the more excess you’re willing and able to take on, the cheaper the policy - though this can vary, depending on other factors involved.

What will travel insurance not cover?

What travel insurance covers will depend on the policy you take out, and whether you’ve opted for any additional features. For instance, a standard travel insurance policy is unlikely to cover any adventure sports, such as snowboarding or water skiing. To guarantee cover, make sure you disclose your destination and planned activities when getting a quote.

It's also worth noting, if you fail to declare any pre-existing medical conditions, or travel against your doctor’s advice, then you may invalidate your policy. For this reason, always be honest with any insurance provider you’re dealing with.

What is the cut-off age for travel insurance?

With Age Co Travel Insurance there is no upper age limit.

This is not the case for all travel insurance on the market. Some providers do impose an age limit, so you should always read the terms and conditions carefully when shopping elsewhere.

How many days before should you buy travel insurance?

Through Age Co, you can buy travel insurance up to a year before your trip.

The benefit of taking out protection early is that you can be covered against delays and cancellations during this time. You’ll also be protected if you opt for annual travel insurance, as this can cover multiple holidays within a 12 month period.

Alternatively, you can take out travel insurance the day before you depart. However, this leaves you more open to financial risk, should your trip be cancelled or you experience a medical emergency that means you can no longer go.
Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide what feels right for you and your trip.

What medical conditions do you need to declare on travel insurance?

As a rule of thumb, when taking out travel insurance, you should declare:

  • Any conditions that you’re currently awaiting test results for
  • Any condition that is scheduled to be operated on
  • Any condition, even a minor one, that you’ve seen your GP about in the last 12 months
  • Any serious condition you’ve had in the past, such as cancer, heart conditions, respiratory issues

If in doubt about any medical condition, please do get in touch with the AllClear team. They’ll be happy to advise and help you find the right protection.

Do you need travel insurance if you have a GHIC or EHIC card?

The Global Health Insurance Card allows UK residents to receive the same level of healthcare in Europe that the locals have access to. It is currently valid in 27 countries. This means that there are a lot of countries where this card won’t be valid. It also will not cover all possible medical costs you may incur, nor protect any medical equipment you may need to bring. Therefore, it is still recommended to take out travel insurance.

Can I be insured after a heart attack/stroke/other medical event?

Many people worry that they won’t be able to take out travel insurance after a change to their health, especially after a sudden event like a heart attack. If you have experienced a change in your health within the last few years, you might find yourself needing specialist medical travel insurance. At Age Co, we have carefully selected AllClear as our Travel Insurance partner. They were the first in the UK to create travel insurance that provided for people with pre-existing conditions. Together, we’re able to help 99% of customers find protection for their next holiday.

What is considered a pre-existing medical condition?

In terms of travel insurance, a pre-existing medical condition is usually categorised as:

  • Any conditions that you’re currently awaiting test results for
  • Any condition that is scheduled to be operated on
  • Any condition, even a minor one, that you’ve seen your GP about in the last 12 months
  • Any serious condition you’ve had in the past, such as cancer, heart conditions, respiratory issues

If you’re unsure whether or not you have a pre-existing medical condition, you can get support from the AllClear team on: 0800 030 4885.

Is emergency medical assistance included?

All Age Co Travel Insurance customers benefit from a 24/7 emergency medical assistance helpline, included as standard.

What documents do I need to provide?

When taking our travel insurance, you’ll need to provide information concerning your holiday destination and whether you have any pre-existing conditions. No documentation is needed at this stage, though you might find it useful to have details concerning your trip to hand, such as receipts for flights or hotels.

Why do I have to provide my medical details to get a quote?

Your insurer will want to understand what care you’ll likely need, and the probability of a claim being made. These factors will then help determine the cost of your policy.

Is there a maximum age limit for coverage?

With Age Co Travel Insurance, there is no age limit.

However, other insurance providers may have maximum age limits. Therefore, if you shop elsewhere, it recommended you check the terms and conditions.

Should I choose an annual or single trip policy?

If you’re going on holiday three or more times in one year, it can be more cost-effective to opt for an annual policy. However, annual policies that cover trips to countries with high medical costs, such as the United States, will be pricier. Therefore, it’s worth comparing prices to see what makes the most sense for you.
