And while standard policies might not be suitable, specialist medical providers are on hand to offer protection. At Age Co, we work in partnership with AllClear - a UK medical specialist. They’re able to approve 99% of pre-existing conditions, including:
- Heart conditions
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Epilepsy

- Mobility issues
How much does travel insurance for over 70s cost?
The only way to get an accurate price for travel insurance is to get a quote from a provider. All policies are priced according to the individual and their trip details. While age and medical history can affect pricing, so too can your chosen destination. For example, insurance covering the USA tends to be more expensive due to the cost of healthcare.
Other factors that can impact the price of your policy include:
- Length of stay: shorter holidays tend to cost less than longer trips away.
- Activities: skiing and water sports are viewed as high-risk activities, so tend to require either additional protection or high costs
- Cruises: these types of holidays have their own unique risks, such as port delays, so you might need to purchase additional cover
- Level of protection: some traveller choose to pay more to have extra benefits or lower excess costs

Frequently asked questions
What's not covered by over 70s travel insurance?
While travel insurance can provide a wide range of protection for anyone over 70 travelling, you must do your best to stay safe while on holiday. If your provider finds out you’ve put yourself at risk or failed to disclose key information, you may struggle to make a claim. The following are common scenarios that will risk invalidating your insurance:
- Failing to disclose any medical conditions while getting a quote or after taking out a policy
- Travelling against the advice of your doctor
- Engaging with high-risk activities that aren’t covered by your policy
What countries does over 70s travel cover?
Age Co Travel Insurance is able to offer worldwide protection. However, to get the right price, it’s important you disclose your specific destination while getting a quote. Limiting your coverage to the UK or Europe tends to be more cost-effective than general worldwide protection. If you are travelling further afield, you can customise your policy to exclude the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean - destinations that incur higher costs.
Why does travel insurance cost more when you turn 70?
The cost of travel insurance tends to increase as we get older. This is tied to the higher chance of medical incidents taking place. To offset these costs, it’s recommended you consider providers carefully to ensure you find the right protection at a fair price.
Can holiday insurance for over 70s include gadgets?
Yes. With Age Co Travel Insurance, no matter what level you select,
all policies can include gadget cover as an optional extra. This helps protect key items, such as laptops, tablets and mobile phones from damage, loss, and theft for up to £2,500. When getting a quote online, you’ll find all our optional extras once you’ve selected from our Gold, Gold Plus, and Platinum quotes.
